Karl Robinson could join Leeds United alongside Sam Allardyce as new team starts to build – BBC journalist

Former Oxford United boss Karl Robinson could be appointed alongside Sam Allardyce at Leeds United, according to Adam Pope.

The 42-year-old is out of work after leaving Oxford in February after five years, having previously managed Charlton and MK Dons but has early experience as a coach on Allardyce’s staff at Blackburn.

Javi Gracia and Victor Orta have both been sacked in the wake of a terrible downturn in results, with the one-game England boss set to come in for the final games of the season, and it appears Merseyside-born Robinson could be his assistant.

BBC man Pope reported via Twitter Tuesday afternoon (2 May): “Ex Oxford Utd boss Karl Robinson could come in alongside Sam Allardyce if the former England manager is appointed. The pair have worked at Blackburn Rovers together.”

Team

It is going to take more than Big Sam trying to recapture the old relegation-fighter magic so the people he brings in with him will be key.

It could be too late either way with the players looking defeated on the pitch at the moment, but a fourth man in charge is going to have to produce something if they are going to avoid the Championship.

The transition from Jesse Marsch to Gracia was messy with Chris Armas caught in the middle of it when bizarrely kept on but unwanted by the Spaniard.

Leeds United

The pace of the latest change is certainly far quicker, and the hope has to be that it has a more positive effect, although there won’t be too many fans who are feeling confident in turning to a veteran boss who has been out of work for two years.

That his last stint in management was relegation with West Brom isn’t exactly a glowing endorsement even if there is plenty of experience across his career.

All sorts of changes have been needed at Elland Road for some time, and belatedly they are now happening in a big way, but whether there is time left to rescue the situation will only become clear over the final four games.

In other Leeds United news, another man is still “desperate” for the job even amid developments with Big Sam.
