Leeds-linked centre-back Connor Goldson is set to tell Rangers that he wants a new contract if they want to keep him beyond the summer, MOT Leeds News can reveal.

Leeds United have been linked with a move for the towering enforcer, either in this window or the summer, as Marcelo Bielsa looks to level up his squad for the Premier League.

Football insider claimed that Leeds had joined the race for his signature and added that they're not the only club interested in the in-demand defender.

West Ham are the latest to show an interest, along with Leeds' Championship rivals West Brom and Fulham.

Football Insider has claimed that the former Brighton centre-back, who cost Rangers £3m in the summer of 2018, is now valued at more than £6m.

A Leeds source with knowledge of Goldson's situation has told MOT Leeds News that the centre-back wants an improved contract if he's going to stay with the Scottish giants past the summer.

His current deal runs out in 2022 so there's no imperative for Gerrard to sell a player who he rates highly.

Goldson has been pretty much an ever-present in the Ranger side and was captain of the side that beat St Mirren 1-0 on Wednesday night.

Our Leeds source told us that Rangers have accepted that they will have to offer him an extension to keep him beyond the summer.

Leeds currently have Brighton centre-back Ben White on loan until the end of the season and he's been a standout for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

However, Leeds do not have an option to buy White and it makes sense that they are planning for reinforcements if they can't sign him on a permanent deal in the summer.
