Beren Cross does not believe that Leeds United have indeed submitted an official bid for Porto winger Otavio in the last few days.

Portuguese news outlet OJOGO reported on June 22 that a bid in the region £25.8million for the 27-year-old as Leeds look to sign a right winger.

He is understood to have a £51.7million release clause at the Portuguese club, but the LeedsLive reporter has claimed that no bid has gone in for him.

When asked about the bid being made on the Q&A, he wrote, “Not as far as I’m aware.”

Way too costly

One can understand the sentiment behind replacing Raphinha as he’s arguably the best player at the club and has the ability to win games singlehandedly.

However, they cannot afford to pay that much for a 27-year-old who’s not even proven in the Premier League.

He may have decent numbers in Portugal, three goals and 13 assists for Porto in the 2021/22 season, but the English top flight is an entirely different ball game.

If Leeds are going for overseas players, then it’s ones like Noa Lang who they should target as they’ve proven themselves in the Champions League as well against the best of teams.

It will also depend on how much they can get from Raphinha’s sale as that will decide the quality of player they eventually want to sign this summer.

As of now, Otavio does not seem a genuine target and we think it should stay that way until his valuation reduces.
