49ers sale: Leeds takeover chances predicted in 'last-chance saloon' verdict

David Norris

MOT Leeds News is delighted to welcome David Norris as an expert pundit. Norris joined Leeds in the summer of 2012 after a stellar season at Portsmouth. After playing 30 times and scoring three goals in the Championship in 2012/13, injuries got the better of the former midfielder before he left in 2015. Norris also played for Plymouth, Ipswich and Blackpool and he's now signed up to MOT Leeds news to share his reaction to the latest news from Elland Road.

Leeds United will not be sold to a new ownership if the club fail to achieve promotion again this season, according to David Norris.

The former Whites midfielder has said 49ers Enterprises have shown commitment during their reign at Elland Road and will not do anything hasty with their investment if Daniel Farke's team cannot get over the line.

Leeds lost out on promotion back to the Premier League last season via the Championship play-off final, having accumulated 90 points during the regular campaign.

"I think the owners will be there for the long haul. Leeds have every chance and I think they'll do it this year, as I've said before," Norris told MOT Leeds News.

"They want a return on their investment and I think they'll get it with promotion this time around. They have to get promoted this year. But, I don't think it's a last-chance saloon for the ownership regardless.

"They seem to be in it for the longer-term project and some exciting stuff has come out of Leeds lately. Sports franchises in the US have that same sort of long-term interest, so I don't see them going anywhere even if the club weren't promoted."

Leeds United in the driving seat

Both on and off the pitch this season, the Whites have made significant strides.

The lucrative business deals being carried out by 49ers - in particular the partnership with Red Bull which has in itself allayed many immediate PSR fears - maintain the club in a good financial position alongside several difficult player sales.

On the field, Farke has his team on song and in the automatic promotion positions, having taken 41 points from 20 games ahead of Saturday's trip to Preston North End [14 December].
