Super computer reveals probability of Leeds earning promotion this season
Any Leeds United fan would have snapped off your hand if you had offered them an eight-point gap to the play-offs at this point of the Championship season.
That gap seems quite bad though when you take into consideration it could easily be double that amount with some stupid results going against the Whites already.
That should prove that numbers don’t mean everything, and that nothing is guaranteed in the Championship – Leeds certainly found that out the hard way last season.
Data Scientists at FiveThirtyEight have updated their end of season Championship table probabilities after the Boxing Day results filtered through.
Despite the disappointment of not picking up a single win in their last three fixtures, it still makes for good reading for all Leeds fans this season.
It is claimed that the Whites have a 51% chance of winning the league, with an even better 83% chance of earning promotion back to the Premier League.
It makes for even better reading when you compare that to West Brom, despite the Baggies only losing once this season and having a three-point gap to Leeds in second.
West Brom, according to the supercomputer, somewhat surprisingly only stand a 31% chance of winning the Championship. That is compared to their chances of promotion which stand at an impressive 69% as it stands.
Brentford are the closest rivals to the top-two, who have a big gap to the rest of the table, with the Bees having a 47% chance of promotion.
If numbers are anything to go by, Leeds fans will be rubbing their hands in excitement at this latest update.
