Sky Sports pundit questions confidence as Coronavirus suspension hands blow to Leeds
David Prutton has questioned if Leeds United can be confident of promotion to the Premier League this season after the Coronavirus suspension.
The EFL confirmed that they had extended the break from football until the end of April meaning that the Whites and others will need to reschedule eight of their remaining nine fixtures past May.
Prutton admitted that players will not return to action at their peaks, with the ban forcing them to train from home away from Thorp Arch.
The Sky Sports pundit admitted that he can't see any team in the Championship gaining an advantage because of the break, claiming Leeds can't be over-confident.
"If the season resumes again in three months’ time for example then you will have a load of footballers coming back and no matter how hard they have trained, the general level of fitness will probably be down anyway," he wrote for the Yorkshire Evening Post.
"I can’t see anyone team having a massive advantage over someone else. Can Leeds still be confident of sealing promotion? It’s hard to even know."
It is an unprecedented suspension that is unlikely to happen again in our lifetime, so it equally difficult to predict what is going to happen once football resumes.
Before the break, it was clear that Leeds were the in-form team in the Championship having regained their spot at the top of the table.
Prediction expert Nate Silver had revealed that the Whites stood a 98% chance of earning promotion to the Premier League after the 2-0 win against Huddersfield, something that Prutton clearly isn't so sure about at this moment [FiveThirtyEight].
