Report: Southern club will not look to offload Leeds-linked forward in January
It looks like Leeds United will jump quickly into the market should Eddie Nketiah eventually get recalled by Arsenal in the coming weeks.
Che Adams has been a name that has been thrown around frequently, and it appears that the Whites and Victor Orta might be on that case already.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay revealed early on Tuesday morning that Adams has quickly become Leeds’ top target should Nketiah leave in January.
The Southern Daily Echo has reported on Tuesday afternoon that Southampton will not look to offload their summer signing in January, despite a slow start.
The newspaper claim on their website that Ralph Hassenhuttl only has four striking options at the club, and because he plays with two up front, he can not afford to lose one of his players in the next month.
It is suggested that the Saints will rebuke any offers from Championship clubs to take him on loan and that he has returned to the fold recently to prove that.
So, despite making Adams their top target, it appears that Leeds could be fighting a losing battle before the market has even opened.
The 23-year-old has made 15 appearances in the Premier League and has yet to score – which makes it strange that he won’t be made available for at least a loan in the second half of the campaign.
It all depends on the future of Nketiah though, and if he somehow remains at Elland Road, this link to Adams will mean nothing anyway.
