Report: PL giants left raving over £25m-rated Leeds star, Jan offer likely
The majority of success that Leeds United have tasted this season has come from their defence. Before Saturday’s collapse against Cardiff, the Whites had been collecting clean sheets on a weekly basis.
Ben White came in to replace the influential Pontus Jansson in the summer and alongside Liam Cooper has formed one of the best partnerships in the Championship.
Leeds will know that the 3-3 draw against Cardiff doesn’t dent their promotion hopes, but it did uncover some cracks that will need to be solved moving forward.
Without Cooper, Leeds looked shakey in the final half an hour and lacked leadership at crucial times. That doesn’t take away the fact that White was great for large periods of the game once again on Saturday.
These types of performances from the Brighton loanee are starting to catch the eye of some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, with Liverpool and Chelsea both watching with intent.
The Sun has reported that Frank Lampard’s scouts are raving about the 22-year-old, and see him going into their first team very quickly should he make the switch to Stamford Bridge.
The newspaper claim on their website that Brighton could be tempted by a £25million offer in January, and that the Blues could sanction a move as early as the winter market.
There is no hiding the fact that White would be a massive loss to Leeds as he is such an integral part of their system.
Marcelo Bielsa likes his side to play out from the back, and White is the coolest character in possession of the ball in his back four at this moment in time.
Leeds cannot afford to lose White midway through this season, but the reality is, without promotion to the Premier League they can’t compete with the likes of Chelsea financially.
