Reliable journalist: Leeds target young winger from PL side becoming free-agent in summer

Early signs in January will be giving Leeds United fans a sense of Deja Vu.

The window is already open and the only concrete name which appears to be popping up is young goalkeeper Elia Caprile whilst there are big doubts over more senior players such as Che Adams making the switch to Elland Road.

It was January last year when Kiko Casilla moved from Real Madrid, but Leeds were left gutted when a deal for Daniel James collapsed at the last moment. He was the only senior outfield player that Leeds made a move for.

Reliable Leeds journalist Beren Cross has recently updated fans on any potential business Leeds may be close to completing and there was one very interesting snippet of information. He discussed the Italian keeper, Caprile, before revealing another potential target.

“…while they want a young winger from a Premier League side on a permanent deal with his contract expiring in the summer,” he wrote in a Q&A for Leeds Live.

Cross doesn’t name the player but it’s interesting that he’s talking in terms of a permanent deal when all the info coming out of Leeds so far has been that the club is looking for loans.

With the winger’s contract coming to an end, it could be that the Premier League club is looking to get a fee in January before they lose him for free in the summer.

However, this is more likely to be a player for the Under-23s or for the bench. Jack Harrison and Helder Costa are well established in the side and Leeds are looking for a replacement for Clarke, who was himself rarely used back-up.

Phil Hay reported a week ago that Bielsa had identified the winger that he wanted to bring in. This could signify that this is progressing.

Leeds are reportedly looking for three players in total this January, a goalkeeper, striker and a winger to replace Clarke, who was recalled from his loan from Tottenham early down to lack of game time.
