Arsenal join race to sign Leeds starlet amid doubts surrounding his future - report

Arsenal and Manchester City have both joined the race to sign Leeds United rising star Henri Kumwenda, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football outlet claims the 18-year-old has blown scouts away recently, with Liverpool also taking an interest in the forward.

According to the report, there are doubts surrounding the future of the youngster at Elland Road – with the attacker having not signed a professional deal at the club despite being eligible for over a year.

It is reported that Leeds are set to make an offer of a professional deal imminently to Kumwenda after the starlet recovered from an injury in the past year.

The 18-year-old has recently starred for Mark Jackson’s side in the FA Youth Cup wins over both Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday and the club are aware of the interest.

We were at the 2-2 draw with the Owls at Tadcaster on Wednesday evening and were impressed by the impact Kumwenda made off the bench in the second half. He also scored the winning penalty in the 5-4 shootout victory.

Should Kumwenda sign a new deal and remain at Leeds, he would be expected to impress in the under-23s before getting a chance with the first-team.

Players such as Nohan Kenneh, Charlie Cresswell, and Jack Jenkins have all done the same recently, and he could be the next in line looking at the competition in that side.

Having said that, the draw of moving to a top Premier League club like the three reportedly interested could be too much for Kumwenda to turn down. Leeds will have their fingers crossed they can keep hold of the youngster.
