Manchester City vs Leeds United postponement update as ice weather warning issued

The Met Office has issued a new weather warning for Manchester on Saturday ahead of Leeds United’s trip to play Manchester City in the Premier League.

Leeds kick-off against Man City at 3pm, knowing that a defeat will see them enter December in the relegation zone and potentially heap more pressure on manager Daniel Farke.

Since Leeds won the Championship title last season, Farke has struggled to show that he’s the right man to keep the Yorkshire club in the Premier League.

After promotion was sealed earlier this year, it was reported that 49ers Enterprises even toyed with the idea of dismissing Farke due to his terrible top-flight record at Norwich.

And with Leeds now on a three-game losing streak, Farke could find himself in Paraag Marathe‘s firing line if his side capitulates at the hands of title-chasing City this weekend.

Manchester weather warning should not affect Man City vs Leeds

On Saturday lunchtime, the Met Office announced a new weather warning for the North of England.

It was confirmed that a yellow warning for ice has been put in place for Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Stoke and other towns and cities in the North and the Midlands.

However, the warning does not come into force until 10pm on Saturday, 29 November, lasting until 9am on Sunday morning.

This means that there’s unlikely to be a postponement of Leeds’ trip to Manchester City.

The Met Office warns on its website that injuries from slipping on icy surfaces are possible, as well as “some icy patches on some untreated roads”.

For Leeds fans making their way back to West Yorkshire late on Saturday, there’s a chance that the ice could affect their travel.

The last time a Leeds game got postponed

Leeds have not had a game postponed since 28 December 2021.

Then-Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard wanted the game called off due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the Leeds squad.

Leeds also saw their Boxing Day match against Liverpool in 2021 postponed for the same reason as the Whites didn’t have the full number of available players for the games.

It seems a distant memory now when COVID-19 put Leeds’ promotion-winning season from the Championship on hold and then forced them to play in front of empty crowds in the Premier League as Marcelo Bielsa led the Yorkshire club to a ninth-placed finish.
