Leeds United ready to seal Mark McKenzie transfer, £5m gets it done

Daniel Farke has made it clear that he would like defensive reinforcements at Leeds United.

Leeds have been linked with several names already in January, but have yet to sanction any deals, both incoming and outgoing at Elland Road.

Union Berlin defender Danilho Doekhi looked to be a prime target, with his contract in Germany expiring at the end of the season.

However, Mark McKenzie of Toulouse has emerged out of nowhere on Monday.

Leeds could seal bargain Mark McKenzie transfer

Leeds sold Charlie Cresswell to Toulouse, and they could be back in business with the French outfit very shortly in January.

Mckenzie is said to be of interest to the Whites, with Adam Underwood looking in defence and the final third for smart additions.

Alex Crook of talkSPORT has reported that McKenzie would cost £5million this month, with Leeds one of the first to register their interest.

The 26-year-old is an American international, with the Premier League likely to appeal ahead of a huge home World Cup for the defender.

Leeds have wanted McKenzie before – Who could he replace?

Leeds wanted to sign McKenzie back in 2024 when he was in Belgium with Genk, and appears to be revisiting that two years later.

Leeds beat Derby 3-1 in the FA Cup third round on Sunday, but the win did throw up some questions.

Farke will not have been happy with his makeshift defence, with Sebastiaan Bornauw, in particular, struggling and being hooked at half-time.

Bornauw has been linked with a January exit himself, but given the lack of depth behind him and now needing more than four central defenders, that would be silly.

McKenzie would offer brilliant depth, and for only £5m, bringing another full-time international to Elland Road cannot be questioned.

It does, however, beg the question of why Leeds sold Cresswell?

At the time, it wasn’t taken well, but nobody could have predicted a tactical shift years later that would have suited him perfectly, so sometimes, you just have to move on.

Being a Leeds fan himself, though, Cresswell will no doubt be the perfect man to tell McKenzie just how huge the club is, and that could just about get a deal done.
