Paul Merson predicts result of Leeds United clash v Aston Villa in Premier League

Paul Merson has backed Aston Villa to beat Leeds United when they meet in the Premier League this evening on Friday 13 January.

Unlucky for some, the Sky Sports pundit has predicted that it will finish 3-1 to the home side at Villa Park with Jesse Marsch looking for answers yet again.

Leeds will be looking to back up their recent draws with Newcastle and West Ham by turning them into three points and another positive result on the road.

Writing in his predictions column for Sportskeeda, Merson could not believe his eyes at what he saw at Villa Park last week in the FA Cup.

“I couldn’t really believe Aston Villa’s result against Stevenage last week – it was a kick in the teeth,” he wrote.

“I thought they’d turned a corner and were doing really well. If they’d beaten Stevenage, they would’ve had a very good cup run. Unai Emery’s a good manager and tactician, and I think he’ll take Aston Villa forward in the long run.

“This is a good game for Emery.

“Leeds are very open and will have a go, and Aston Villa are decent going forward. I think Aston Villa will back themselves to win this game.”

Friday Night Lights.

This is a huge game for both sets of fans as the two clubs look to start rising up the Premier League table and push for those top-half spots.

It could hinge on big injury news at both sides, with John McGinn ruled out and Matty Cash doubtful, whereas Leeds will welcome back Patrick Bamford and be without Crysencio Summerville.

They are some big names and both Marsch and Unai Emery will not be happy with some of the news given to them by their medical staff over the past week.

Villa will be downed and bruised after that shock defeat to Stevenage last week, and it is up to Leeds to take advantage of that, not let them bounce back from it.

Leeds need to bully their way into the game and with the likes of Tyler Adams in the side, that could be crucial in that midfield battle against Douglas Luiz and Boubacar Kamara.

Three points would be huge here, fingers crossed.
