Tim Sherwood says Daniel Farke sack ‘inevitable’ at Leeds United after what he’s shown on Sky Sports

Tim Sherwood fully expects Daniel Farke to be sacked by Leeds United, potentially as soon as this time next month.

Leeds were beaten 3-1 by Nottingham Forest on Sunday to see the gap close on the relegation zone to just one point.

Farke broke an unwanted record as Leeds manager in the loss to Forest, as his side fell to defeat in a league game they led under the German for the first time.

Chris Sutton is among those to have defended Farke, who has a tough job on his hands at Leeds, but Sherwood believes his sacking is pretty much inevitable.

Leeds have horror run of Premier League fixtures to come

It is worth remembering that Leeds are outside the Premier League relegation zone – albeit by only a point – with 11 matches of the season played.

Not many backed Leeds to stay up this season, and finishing 17th would be a brilliant achievement for Farke.

However, former Aston Villa manager Sherwood is unsure if he will have the opportunity to do so.

Sherwood was a guest on Sky Sports News on Monday morning when he was showed a graphic of Leeds’ next four fixtures.

Leeds host Aston Villa upon their return to Premier League action after the international break, before travelling to Manchester City.

The Whites then host Chelsea and Liverpool in back-to-back games at Elland Road in what is a very tricky run.

Responding to that, Sherwood said: “I do think we’ll see a change of manager at Leeds. I hope we don’t but it’s inevitable we will because they won’t win any of those next four games.”

Sherwood went on to defend Farke’s record at Leeds this season, albeit he did tip United to go down with Burnley and Wolves.

“He’ll be feeling the pressure, but Daniel will always feel that,” Sherwood said. “I’d say it wasn’t his fault at Norwich. They didn’t spend enough.

It’s different with Leeds because they’ve had funds, albeit I don’t think what they’ve spent it on is good enough. They’ll go again in January, but this is a difficult job.

The pressure comes because he’s failed in the past, but I want to stick up for him. Norwich was the best job in the Championship and worst in the Premier League.

But who are you going to bring in [at Leeds?]. I like owners who make decisions, like [Evangelos] Marinakis. Do what you think is best and don’t just sit on your hands – act. A lot of chairmen need to do that.”

Sherwood added: “It’s a worry for Burnley and Leeds. When they first played this season, a lot of analysts get a good look at them and that information is fed to other teams.

So it might be a case of being found out. It’s going to be a struggle for both Burnley and Leeds.

I’m not saying I’m 100 per cent sure [they’ll go down] but I think they’ll swap places with West Ham and Nottingham Forest. If I had to put my neck on the line, I’d say Wolves to go down with Burnley and Leeds.”

What names have been mentioned to replace Daniel Farke at Leeds?

Farke is not at immediate risk of being sacked by Leeds, but as Sherwood mentions, that could change if Leeds fail to win their next four games.

It may well be that Paraag Marathe is already eyeing up possible replacements – and he would be right to do so – with a fair few names already mentioned.

Marco Rose is believed to be the frontrunner to take over from Farke should the 49ers pull the trigger.

Brendan Rodgers is another name mentioned for the Leeds job, with the Northern Irishman out of work after recently leaving Celtic.

Rodgers is extremely experienced and would tick plenty of boxes.

Steven Gerrard and Ange Postecoglou – somewhat surprisingly – are two other names that could be in the frame.

For now, all Farke can do is hope Leeds come out of this horror run of fixtures still above the dotted line. For if that is the case, there will be no reason to sack the German.
