Leeds United transfer news: Max Wober deal could be completed next week

Leeds United are hopeful of finalising a transfer to sign RB Salzburg defender Max Wober as early as next week, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper has reported on its website that the Whites have continued talks with the Austrian club for their captain, with a deal worth £14million in total now looking close.

Joining Salzburg for £10.6million back in 2019 currently makes Wober the most expensive player in the Austrian Bundesliga as Jesse Marsch looks for a reunion.

This is no surprise with a move for the defender, who can play centrally and at left-back progressing very quickly at Elland Road in recent days.

Salzburger Nachrichten actually reported on Friday 30 December that the 24-year-old was in West Yorkshire and has already completed his medical with Leeds.

If that is the case, this one could be announced very early in January and possibly even ahead of the Premier League clash with West Ham on Wednesday 4.

First of many.

It is very clear that Leeds and Victor Orta need a busy January.

After years of watching Marcelo Bielsa mainly ignore this market, the current squad at Elland Road needs work quickly, as they continue to play with huge holes.

Wober coming in as a left-back would help, but he looks to be more of a central option who can play there when needed, exactly like Pascal Struijk.

If another left-back was to come in on top of the Austrian, as well as a new striker, not many could complain about the business done by Andrea Radrizzani and his team.

The early signs are good too, with Leeds looking to get this one done before January even arrives tomorrow so they can concentrate on other areas throughout the month.

Wober knows Marsch and his style, and if he can shore up a leaky defence in the second half of the season, he could become an instant hero at Elland Road.

It won’t be easy, but it looks as though we have our first transfer of the winter right here.
