Leeds United confirm postponement as pitch inspection fails
Leeds United are among a large group of clubs battling the elements on Sunday.
Storm Goretti has battered England after coming from France, with weather warnings in place up and down the country.
Leeds’ clash against Derby in the FA Cup third round will face the brutal weather, with Daniel Farke expected to heavily rotate his squad at Pride Park.
The 49ers Enterprises have really brought the club together at all levels at Thorp Arch, with the benefits starting to pay off in West Yorkshire.
Leeds United postponement confirmed
Leeds’ clash with Derby is expected to go ahead, but not everyone at Thorp Arch has been as lucky.
It has been confirmed that Leeds United Women’s clash with York City Ladies has been postponed on 11 January, after a failed pitch inspection.
Surrounding areas for spectators were also deemed unsafe at the Bannister Prentice Stadium.
The FA WNL Division One North clash will now be rearranged for a later date.
How have Leeds United Women performed this season?
It has been an awful start to 2026 for Leeds’ Women’s side, with the weather taking over.
Their match against Chester-le-Street on 3 January was also postponed, making it two from two already heading into the New Year.
Before that was an FA Cup showdown with West Brom, a tier-three side, losing 3-0, but it was a sense of pride that was the overwhelming reaction to that.
Simon Wood believes his side didn’t look out of place against that level of opposition, with Leeds looking to push towards that standing in the near future.
“We’ve played a few tier three teams this year,” he said. “We’ve played Halifax, we played Hull, we played West Brom twice, and I think the players, over the course of those games, have done tremendously well.
“We’ve got a good group of players. We’ve got players who want to play as high as they can. And I think what we saw today was that we don’t look sort of in the wrong company when we’re playing against these sides.”
After missing out on promotion last season at Leeds, the motivation is there for them.
Leeds are currently third, only two points behind Huddersfield in top spot, with a game in hand over their local Yorkshire rivals, which could put them top.
With Chester-le-Street and York to play, two sides near the bottom, Wood will want his side to be ruthless in Garforth to really grab that top spot and make it their own.
