Leeds United closing in on Georginio Rutter deal transfer from Hoffenheim - Fabrizio Romano
Leeds are closing in on the signing of Georginio Rutter from Hoffenheim with just final details being sorted between clubs, says Fabrizio Romano.
The Whites have made their move for the 20-year-old Bundesliga ace, with a deal worth more than £26m on the cards to bring him to the Premier League.
The player is set to undergo a medical in the next 48 hours according to Sky Sports Germany, and Romano has now confirmed that the deal is nearing completion.
“Leeds United are closing in on deal to sign Georginio Rutter, confirmed,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (10 January).
“Final details being sorted between clubs, personal terms fully agreed days ago.
“Medical tests to be scheduled if all goes to plan. More than €30m to Hoffenheim, as per @Plettigoal.”
The deal is definitely a gamble, with the player’s goalscoring record returning only 10 goals in 57 appearances in his career.
But his quality and potential is undeniable from anyone that has watched him and Leeds have once again dipped into that transfer market to get deals done quickly.
Getting their business done early during the January window was imperative for fans, because it shows the World Cup break was used to plan things in advance and get the wheels in motion instead of leaving the team and Jesse Marsch waiting and panicking as time ticked down.
Now that the deal is almost sure to be done barring any last minute hitches, Leeds can focus on getting the team back in shape and turn their attentions to a relegation battle and avoiding one.
If any other deals are done they’ll be considered as bonuses, but the priorities have been addressed and that’s all we as fans can ask for.
