Leeds United and Barcelona about to close deal for blockbuster Raphinha transfer

Barcelona and Leeds United are on the verge of agreeing a blockbuster transfer for Raphinha, according to Gerard Romero on Friday evening.

The Spanish journalist reported that the La Liga giants are set to pay £51.7million for the Brazilian, with the move to Chelsea now looking unlikely.

It is said that Newcastle have recently made an offer for the player, but the Magpies have seen that turned down.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Friday evening (01 July), Romero shared the latest as a deal finally looks set to be finalised between the two parties.

“Barça and Leeds, about to close the deal for Raphinha,” he wrote. “Barça offers a figure around €60m [£51.7m].

“Barça and Raphinha have agreed a salary of €6m [£5.1m] net per season.

“In recent days, the player turned down an offer from Newcastle.”

Finally.

This looked to always be the case, but these are reports coming from Spain so it is unknown whether or not they are fully accurate regarding the deal.

Raphinha has clearly always wanted the move to the Nou Camp to follow the path of his childhood idol, Ronaldinho, and Deco has been pushing this for months now.

The personal terms have been agreed upon for ages too, with Fabrizio Romano not letting anyone forget about that.

One positive about this is that we won’t be seeing Raphinha in the Premier League every single week at Chelsea or Arsenal, but the fee is already looking lower.

Barcelona paying just above £50million looked unlikely, but if they pay it in one chunk, it won’t be the worst thing and it will offer a huge profit on the investment we paid out to Rennes.

Hopefully, there will be other clauses included in the deal that can take it even higher, but for now, that set fee appears to be ever so slightly on the low side compared.
