Three players you never knew played for Leeds and Burnley ahead of Turf Moor showdown
Leeds return to Premier League action on Saturday with a trip to Turf Moor to take on Burnley.
Daniel Farke has a terrible record against Burnley that he’ll be hoping to rectify this weekend, with the Leeds boss winning just one of six games he’s managed against the Lancashire club.
Leeds’ form hasn’t been too great lately, either, with the Yorkshire club winning just one of their last seven matches in all competitions.
As a result, the Whites are 15th in the Premier League table going into their match against the Clarets, who are four points behind them in 18th at this early stage.
Ahead of Leeds’ showdown with Burnley, MOT Leeds News has looked at the players who’ve played for both clubs.
While there are some obvious ones like Charlie Taylor, Ian Moore and Chris Wood, we’ve delved into the lesser-known players who pulled on both jerseys during their careers.

Patrick Bamford – Burnley 2016-17, Leeds 2018-2025
Patrick Bamford is currently trying to find a new club after leaving Leeds in the summer.
Unless he re-signs for one of his old teams, it would be the 10th club of his career, with Chelsea sending the striker out on loan a heap of times during his spell at Stamford Bridge.
One of those loan spells was in the 2016-17 season, when Bamford was shipped out to Burnley, where he made just six appearances in all competitions before he was recalled by Chelsea.
A clash in personalities with manager Sean Dyche seemed to halt his progress at Turf Moor.
- Bamford’s loan spell at Burnley came when they avoided relegation from the Premier League in 2016-17
- Sam Vokes, another player who played for Leeds and Burnley, starred alongside him at Turf Moor that season.
- Bamford eventually joined Leeds and won the Championship title twice, as well as one cap for England.
“Me and the boys got on fine but me and Sean Dyche just clashed,” Bamford told the Daily Mail in 2017.
“I could sit down and talk to him now and be civil but we had different ideas of football. I didn’t get a chance. His team has done great, mind. I can’t argue with that.
“There were a few comments. Dyche said that because I had come through at Chelsea, and because of the way I had been brought up, I had never had to work for anything.
“My background is irrelevant and I didn’t even come through at Chelsea. I started at Nottingham Forest cleaning toilets and scrubbing the shower floors.”

Bamford was then soon sold by Chelsea to Middlesbrough, with Leeds signing him in 2018 and handing him 205 appearances in all competitions.
Steven Caldwell – Leeds 2004, Burnley 2007-10
Steven Caldwell’s time at Leeds wasn’t exactly a happy one.
Newcastle United sent him on loan to Elland Road in a swap deal that involved Michael Bridges heading to St James’ Park.
The former Scotland international made 13 appearances for the Yorkshire club before he was recalled by Newcastle on 4 May 2004.
On 8 May, Leeds were relegated from the Premier League.
After leaving Newcastle for Sunderland, Caldwell eventually ended up at Burnley, where he spent three years, made 119 appearances in all competitions and helped them win promotion to the Premier League in 2009-10.
Clarke Carlisle – Leeds 2004-05, Burnley 2007-12
Former England Under-21s defender Clarke Carlisle was well known for his time at Burnley, but not many fans will remember his stint at Leeds United.
Leeds signed Carlisle on a free transfer in 2004 in the Yorkshire club’s first campaign back in the second tier following their relegation the season before.
Carlisle made 38 appearances that season, scoring four goals, two of which were against Watford, who snapped him up in the summer of 2005.
Burnley landed the former centre-back two years later and he went on to play 152 times in all competitions for the Clarets.
In 2009, he partnered with Caldwell in Burnley’s defence as they kept a clean sheet and won 1-0 in the Championship play-off final against Sheffield United.
