'I think...' - Phil Hay delivers verdict on Bielsa future at Leeds

Even with an 11 point gap to third-placed Fulham, all Leeds United fans will know to guard against complacency moving forward in the Championship.

Promotion is never a given in this league, as we all found out the hard way last season. We were top at Christmas, and many of us believed it was the year.

In true Leeds style that wasn’t the case. Although Marcelo Bielsa transformed us, we all feared the worst regarding his future when it all went pear-shaped.

Those fears were blown out of the window when Bielsa signed a new deal at Elland Road for this season. They put to bed thoughts of our worst nightmare, but only temporarily.

Soon the Argentine will be approaching the end of this current deal, and with the Premier League in sight, we all hope that he could be tempted to stay at Elland Road past this year.

The Athletic journalist, Phil Hay, recently responded to a fan on his personal Twitter account who was asking if Bielsa would want to stay in West Yorkshire past this season.

It all depended on promotion to the top flight, but Hay believed that the South American would be more than happy to stay if we did achieve that goal.

“Yeah, I think he would,” he wrote.

That is the news every single Leeds fan wanted to hear. You never know with Bielsa, looking back through his career, and until something has been made official, you just have to sit and wait.

There are no doubts that Bielsa would be the man to lead us into the Premier League should we get there. That also comes with the realisation that if we fail to make it, there is little chance that he sticks around for another year in the Championship.
