Mohamed Amoura left out of Wolfsburg squad as Leeds line up blockbuster late transfer, announcement made

Leeds have shown an interest in signing Wolfsburg striker Mohamed Amoura in the closing stages of the winter transfer window.

Daniel Farke is keen to bolster his strike force before the transfer deadline at 7pm on Monday.

Wolves and Norway striker Jorgen Strand Larsen has been strongly linked with a move to Elland Road. However, the Whites have so far struggled to agree on a fee with the West Midlands club.

Genk striker Oh Hyeon-gyu is also reportedly a target for Leeds.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been on fire for United this season, but that hasn’t stopped Farke from wanting a new striker, with Amoura the last name to be mentioned.

Leeds eye up Mohamed Amoura as he’s axed from Wolfsburg squad

France Football journalist Nabil Djellit reported on Friday that Leeds are in the hunt to sign Algeria striker Amoura from Wolfsburg in the final days of the transfer window.

It is understood that the Yorkshire giants have a long-standing interest in the former Union Saint-Gilloise striker, who joined Wolfsburg permanently from USG last summer after an initial loan spell.

Interestingly, Amoura was left out of the Wolfsburg squad as they lost 1-0 away at Koln in the Bundesliga on Friday night.

“Mohammed Amoura is not in the squad today for disciplinary reasons,” said an official announcement by the German club’s X account.

It’s unknown why Amoura found himself axed from Daniel Bauer’s squad.

However, it’s unlikely to have anything to do with a potential move to Leeds.

According to Djellit, a move at this stage of the winter window is unlikely, unless a “dramatic” twist happens.

Should Leeds sign Mohamed Amoura or Jorgen Strand Larsen?

Leeds are desperate to add to their attack before 7pm on Monday. Deep down they probably know that it’s a matter of when and not if Calvert-Lewin picks up an injury.

Strand Larsen was good for Wolves last season but has been terrible this term, scoring just once in the Premier League and being dropped from Rob Edwards’ starting line-up.

Amoura, on the other hand, has scored seven times in the Bundesliga despite playing fewer minutes in the league (1,126) than Strand Larsen (1,385).

Stats by Sofascore clearly show that Amoura would be the best option for Leeds.

However, with Wolves bottom of the Premier League and doomed to relegation, it’ll no doubt be easier for them to convince Strand Larsen to swap Molineux for Elland Road.

Amoura could see a move to Leeds as a risk because right now, he’s playing for an established Bundesliga club, and the Whites aren’t exactly guaranteed of staying in the English top flight.

That being said, there are clearly some issues behind the scenes at Wolfsburg, and that could prompt Leeds into making a late swoop for the Algeria international.
