'Beyond gutted' - Leeds 24-year-old shares Instagram message after 1-0 defeat v QPR
Leeds United will be without Kalvin Phillips for three games after the midfielder picked up a red card in the 1-0 defeat against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
There were no excuses, and the lunging tackle was a big sign of frustration for the Whites, who missed a whole host of chances once again in the capital.
Phillips has now picked up a straight red in January in back-to-back seasons and will miss games against Millwall, Wigan, and Nottingham Forest.
Writing on his personal Instagram account, the 24-year-old apologised to Leeds fans, claiming that he is a fan as well as a player and his tackle has left him gutted.
"Sorry to the Leeds fans for my red card yesterday.
"It wasn’t intentional but I timed the tackle badly. I’m a Leeds fan as well as a player so maybe a little frustration that we have all been feeling was shown but that’s never an excuse.
"Beyond gutted to miss the next 3 games, And I will make sure I do everything I can during and after my ban to make this dream for all of us come true! We stick together and we march on!"
Phillips is spot on though, it isn't an excuse and the tackle was nowhere near necessary. There were only a few minutes left and Leeds were pushing for an equaliser, something that quickly was put to a halt.
It was a case of same-old for the Whites. Not much went their way, and even when something did they managed to not capitalise - something that is seeing their gap to the play-off pack closing quickly.
