There are a number of players that Leeds United couldn't live without.

Some obvious ones that spring to mind are Kalvin Phillips, Ben White, and Pablo Hernandez - all three playing massive roles this season in the Championship.

One that probably was nowhere near that category at the beginning of the season was Kiko Casilla. The Spaniard made too many mistakes, including a very costly one in the play-offs against Derby.

That's changed. Leeds have been magnificent in defence and hold the best record in Europe's top-five leagues as well as the football league keeping 12 clean sheets already, only conceding 0.48 goals per game [LUFCDATA].

Jermaine Beckford has claimed that the Whites defence will be the difference between earning promotion or enduring another year of disappointment.

When asked if Leeds could live without any of Casilla, White, or Phillips, Beckford couldn't pick any of them after their start to the campaign.

"I don't think they could live without any of them," he said on Sky Sports (11/12, 10:50 am).

"All of them have been amazing players for Leeds United this season.

"Everything seems to start from those three guys. I think they're going to be the difference between making it to the Premier League or not making it."

The recognition for defensive players ahead of the likes of Hernandez and Patrick Bamford proves just how important they have been this season.

There is a lack of defensive depth, so Phillips and White staying fit when the likes of Liam Cooper are picking up injuries will be key.

Beckford is spot on with his verdict on the Whites trio, with all three vitally important to Marcelo Bielsa's system both in and out of possession.
