BBC journalist: Leeds defender undergoes minor surgery, expected back within month
Leeds United defender Leif Davis has undergone minor knee surgery, according to journalist Adam Pope.
The BBC broadcaster confirmed on his personal Twitter account that the 20-year-old went under the knife to clean up cartilage in his knee.
According to Pope, Davis is expected to be back from his surgery within a month - though timescales haven't been the Whites' strong point this season.
Davis has only been used three times off the bench this season under Marcelo Bielsa, completing 13 minutes in the Championship.
He has also been rarely used by the under-23s, with Pascal Struijk moving to left-back for Carlos Corberan in recent weeks.
The young defender will be hoping that a return to full fitness will give him an opportunity to recapture last season's form, where he caught the eye on seven occasions in all competitions - including a start in the famous 3-2 victory at Aston Villa.
Options are running thin in the squad for Leeds, and Bielsa will have a decision to make against Millwall.
With Barry Douglas missing against Queens Park Rangers, Stuart Dallas dropped back into his natural position. He struggled though and was replaced by Ezgjan Alioski.
It has been a problem area. Not one player has managed to nail down their spot in the side, and Davis could have been a potential answer to that weakness.
Douglas has had too many injuries to consistently hold down the spot. Alioski, on the other hand, likes to play a very high line compared to the rest of his back four and can be caught out.
The Scotsman would be considered first-choice at the club, but yet 12 other players have averaged more tackles in each game [WhoScored]. Douglas could be described as a defender who has the main weakness of defending - something which can be a curse at times.
Davis could have been the man to step up, but he will have to wait for another month atleast before he is even placed back on the bench.
