‘Wow’, ‘Brilliant’, ‘Inspiring’ – Some Leeds fans delighted with key player tweet
Leeds United fans have praised Patrick Bamford for defending his decision to speak out about the Black Lives Matter protests across the globe.
Bamford, 26, has posted several tweets that challenge the police’s treatment of black people and called for a change to white supremacy.
The striker’s latest tweet led to him having a private discussion with a Leeds fan, who told him to avoid talking about politics and claimed footballers shouldn’t be getting involved.
Bamford made the conversation public and said “mindless idiots like this are the people who need educating the most”.
The former Chelsea player attracted a lot of praise from Leeds fans for discussing the issue of race, which is widely seen as a tender topic to discuss on social media.
But we applaud Bamford for not only for sticking up for what he believes in but also reaching out to someone he disagrees with and conveys his point in a very good way.
Nothing will change unless people talk about it and why should John and Jane Doe be able to talk about the Black Lives Matter movement and not footballers?
Gary Lineker is someone who gets told to stick to football whenever he talks about any real-world issues or wades into politics.
He’s one of the most well-paid television presenters in the UK, played at the highest level in England and Spain and is clearly a well-educated man.
Who would you rather listen to? Bamford and Lineker? Or the person who told Bamford to stick to football?
We’re glad Bamford stuck up for himself and so are these fans who have supported the forward.
