Leeds United fans have taken issue with a Sky Sports post that asked if Liverpool would be the perfect destination for elite striker Erling Haaland.

20-year-old Haaland is currently keeping up his incredible scoring record at Dortmund, with 10 in 10 this season across all competitions, after 29 in 29 in the Austrian and German Bundesligas for Dortmund and Salzburg last season.

He’s got 14 in 11 Champions League games over the last two seasons.

Haaland moved to Dortmund for just £18m in January this year but it was the previous transfer – from Molde to Salzburg in January 2019 that’s of most interest to Leeds fans.

Leeds had tried to sign Haaland from Molde and, according to Atheltic journalist Phil Hay, were confident of landing him before Salzburg blew them out of the water with a £7m bid.

Haaland was born in Leeds and had previously said that his dream was to win the Premier League with the club.

Plenty of Leeds fans are still clinging to this, although realistically Haaland is only going to move to a team offering Champions League football.

Could that be with Leeds in a few years? Champions League is definitely the aim for Leeds and Andrea Radrizzani in the next 3-5 years.

And we’d love to see Haaland firing us to glory in Europe – as would these Leeds fans…
