These Leeds fans blown away by image shared by Phil Hay: ‘Outstanding’, ‘Thing of beauty’

Leeds United fans cannot wait for the season to resume after Phil Hay shared an image of Elland Road on Twitter on Sunday.

It is unclear whether or not Hay took the picture himself but based on the weather and the fact there are no markings on the pitch just yet, it seems that The Athletic journalist had behind the scenes access at the Leeds stadium this weekend.

The ex-Yorkshire Evening Post reporter shared the image of Elland Road on his personal Twitter account and, understandably, that has led to Leeds fans gushing over the fact that in less than a week’s time, Marcelo Bielsa’s men would have resumed their bid to win automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds play Cardiff away in South Wales next week and won’t be playing back at Elland Road until June 27 when they welcome promotion rivals Fulham to West Yorkshire.

It is going to be odd seeing Leeds play in an empty stadium without any of the famous Elland Road atmosphere buzzing in the background.

The club has organised for cardboard cut-outs of fans to be made and placed in the stands, which is a good idea, but it’s never going to replace the atmosphere and the limbs you usually see when a United player hits the back of the net.

But, the fact that the time is almost upon us to resume the season is exciting and that is what these fans are saying after seeing Hay share that picture.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

In other Leeds United news, journalists will be allowed into Elland Road on matchdays.
