These Leeds fans blast player who ‘needs binned by the club’ after Orta interview: ‘Get rid’
Leeds United fans are not exactly pleased with Victor Orta for saying he is “proud” of how Kiko Casilla has dealt with his racism ban.
In February, the FA found that Casilla, 33, had racially abused Jonathan Leko and subsequently hit the Leeds goalkeeper with an eight-match ban.
Before the coronavirus pandemic brought football to a halt, Casilla served two matches of his ban as Illan Meslier stepped in and kept clean sheets in wins over Hull and Huddersfield.
Leeds’ director of football Orta has praised Casilla for mentoring 20-year-old Meslier during his ban but he has also been happy with how the Spaniard has coped with being banned for racism.
“He has had adversities and has managed to overcome [them], he has known how to feel the colours of the club and interpret what this team is,” said Orta, as quoted by LeedsLive.
“I am also very proud because, with all the adversities he has suffered, he is still mentally very strong and helping a lot.
“Even with the current situation, he is helping Meslier, the young goalkeeper, after the sanction received.”
Orta should have picked his words a bit better here because Casilla simply cannot be praised for anything to do with his ban for racism.
Casilla was found to have racially abused a 20-year-old who was playing football back in September. The goalkeeper hasn’t even apologised to Leko – according to the Daily Mail.
Leeds fans don’t seem to be too pleased with Orta saying he’s “proud” of Casilla, with some of them taking to Twitter to say they want to see the ex-Real Madrid goalkeeper sold by the Yorkshire club in the summer.
