Leeds United fans were delighted with what they saw from left-back Barry Douglas in their 3-1 pre-season friendly win over Pacos de Ferreira on Saturday.

Although the Portuguese side went ahead at Thorp Arch, goals by Pascal Struijk, Pablo Hernandez and Helder Costa were enough to secure a victory for the Whites as they ramp up their preparations for the upcoming Premier League season.

In the first half, Douglas managed to get Leeds fans talking with an exquisite free-kick from the right-wing that was headed into the back of the net by Struijk.

Before the transfer window opened, many would have thought Marcelo Bielsa would want to sign a new left-back due to Douglas playing just 15 times in the Championship last season.

Stuart Dallas and Ezgjan Alioski were ahead of him in the pecking order at left-back but after such a good display in Yorkshire on Saturday, the 31-year-old Scot might have played himself back into Bielsa’s plans.

As good as Dallas was last season, it might be best to go with a natural left-back rather than a versatile winger in that position due to the upgrade in class of attacking players Leeds will be coming up against in the Premier League.

Leeds fans were very happy with Douglas’ performance, with one saying that the 2019/20 fringe player “could be a big part of the team this season”.

In other Leeds United news, this dazzling livewire could light up Elland Road in the future if Victor Orta signs him.
