Leeds United fans seem divided on a report by Phil Hay which says that Barry Douglas is likely to be offered a contract extension.

Douglas, 30, made his first Championship start for Leeds since January 11 when he was named in Marcelo Bielsa’s line-up to take on Blackburn on Saturday.

The former Wolves left-back did a brilliant job in the Whites’ defence, handing Bielsa a selection headache ahead of the clash versus Stoke on Thursday with Stuart Dallas back in contention to play.

Douglas’ future at Elland Road remains unsure though, with the Scottish left-back now in the final 12 months of his contract.

The Athletic journalist Hay has previously reported that Douglas could be sold by Leeds once this season is over but after a strong showing at Ewood Park, that outlook seems to have change with the Yorkshire giants now likely to extend his contract.

Some Leeds fans are happy to know that the Glasgow-born left-back could be handed a longer deal by the club but there are others who are unsure.

One support tips Rangers to sign the one-time Scotland international while another has dubbed the injury-ridden defender as a “flop”.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Is Douglas a flop? We don’t think so.

He did brilliantly at Wolves in his one and only season there and although he’s been decent for Leeds, he hasn’t performed as well as he did at Molineux.

Douglas has been unfortunate with injuries but we think that he has offered enough to the club to suggest he is not a flop and is simply someone who has not met the very high expectations that were set of him.

If he had cost an arm and a leg to get in then yes, maybe he would be a flop but we just don’t think that.

In other Leeds United news, Marcelo Bielsa is expected to drop this one player against Stoke.
