'Poor fella... burnt out', 'Ridiculous' – Some fans react to Weds int'l display from Leeds star

Finally, the internationals are over and the last of the Leeds United players are heading home after what we think has been one of the most ill-thought-out international breaks ever.

Injuries and positive Covid-19 tests have been mounting up and Leeds, while faring better than a lot of teams, might not have got away with it completely after Gjanni Alioski was sent home early with a hamstring issue.

Stuart Dallas has been a big worry, too, after seemingly injuring his arm in the Euro 2020 play-off against Slovakia last week.

That happened in the first half but he got up to finish the game, in which he won his 50th cap for his country, only for his side to miss out after losing in extra time.

Leeds fans were quite happy to see him start the next game against Austria, a game that he captained. However, they would have preferred him not to play the full 90 minutes.

And more fans were worried after he put in another 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw against Romania last night.

It means that he’s played 300 minutes of international football over the past week and one fan said, “The poor fella will be burnt out”, while another said, “Please send him back in bubble wrap so he is ok, we can’t do without the Cookstown Cafu.”

Another supporter just said that playing 300 minutes is “ridiculous” and we agree.

Dallas is a hero – and many fans pointed that out again last night. He’s also played all 90 minutes in every Premier League game this season for Leeds, bar the final 10 minutes of the clash against Leicester.

Featuring so much this week isn’t ideal at all, though, with a crucial game for Leeds against Arsenal on Sunday. We hope that he will come through the next couple of days of training to make the starting XI for the clash at Elland Road on Sunday.

At least he’s seemingly come through the games unscathed but we do think international managers should have the long-term fitness of players in mind more.

Here are the best reactions from fans to his latest 90 minutes for his country…
