‘Perfect’, ‘Victor, over to you’ – Many Leeds fans react as Ornstein shares striker ‘about-turn’

Leeds United have been looking for a striker ever since Eddie Nketiah was recalled by Arsenal over a lack of game time at Elland Road.

He was seemingly due to land at another Championship club, with Bristol City the favourites, but there was a twist in that tale after Athletic journalist David Ornstein confirmed that the striker would now be staying at Arsenal.

That’s led to a myriad of reactions from Whites fans, none funnier than those who are saying that he’s now at a club that can guarantee him more game time than Leeds.

Ornstein claims that the “about-turn” has come about after Mikel Arteta watched the player in training and he may well get a chance to showcase his skills in the Premier League this season.

However, the chances are that he’s swapped the Leeds bench for the Arsenal one and although Nketiah never really fitted in at Leeds, at least we had a viable impact sub.

Instead, Leeds have been handed what seems like an impossible task at the moment – to find a striker at least as good as the Arsenal youngster. So far, that hunt has led to Che Adams and a refusal from Southampton.

The one bit of good news from this is that Nketiah won’t come back to haunt Leeds later in the season and plenty of Leeds fans commented about this, with one saying “So happy” and another saying “Perfect”.

Leeds fans don’t have a great relationship with Bristol City manager Lee Johnson and seeing him lose out is another bonus.

However, it’s brought the issue of a new striker at Leeds sharply back into focus, with one fan saying the club knew Nketiah was going to be recalled in December, adding, “Victor… over to you.”

If we do land Adams then things will have worked out for the best. In the meantime, here are the best reactions from Leeds fans to the Nketiah twist…
