‘Pathetic Mateusz’, ‘Madness’ – These Leeds fans react to Klich tweet about ‘direct rivals’
Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich was watching Monday Night Football and obviously disagreed with the contentious decision to award Southampton a penalty towards the end of the game.
Solly March collided with Kyle Walker-Peters and the referee initially awarded a free-kick.
However, VAR got involved and the decision was changed to a penalty despite initial contact being outside the box.
On the Sky Sports coverage, Alan Smith berated the decision saying, “This is where VAR lets itself down. It wasn’t clear and obvious.”
Danny Ings stepped up and converted the penalty that put Southampton into fifth in the table.
Mateusz Klich had already got a problem with VAR after Ian Poveda wasn’t awarded a penalty on Saturday despite being clipped inside the box.
After the game against Chelsea he said VAR is “supporting divers” after Poveda stayed on his feet.
And on Monday evening he sent out another message saying, “Not even funny anymore.”
There’s obviously something wrong when players, commentators and pundits all have the same problem with VAR.
And the majority of Leeds fans agreed with Klich too, although not all. And one wasn’t happy that he was defending a ‘direct rival’ in reference to what Brighton said to Leeds when they refused to sell Ben White to us this summer.
VAR was meant to bring more certainty and more correct decisions into the game. Instead, because of the way it’s being interpreted, it’s causing even more problems than when the game was officiated by a single referee on the pitch.
That can’t be right and there has to be a rethink about the way the rules are being interpreted at Stockley Park.
Here’s what the Leeds fans made to the decision last night and Klich’s tweet.

The best response of the evening, though, has to be this one from Steve LUFC. Well played, sir.
