‘Not sure it’s worth it’, ‘Whatever it takes’ – Some Leeds fans react to what EFL has told club

Leeds United fans have offered a mixed reaction to a letter that was sent by the EFL to the Championship leaders about the state of the current season.

Before football was halted last month due to the coronavirus pandemic, Leeds were on a five-match winning streak that saw them move top of the Championship table and seven points clear of third with nine matches left to play.

There have been a number of ideas suggested about how the currently-suspended season should be dealt with, with a 22-team Premier League and voiding the campaign both being discussed.

However the EFL seems adamant to play out the remaining fixtures of the season and, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, that is what was said in a recent letter to Leeds.

The EFL have planned to finish all remaining fixtures and all playoff fixtures in a period of 56 days.

However it comes with the cavaet that matches will have to be played behind closed doors.

If Leeds win promotion back to the Premier League after a 16-year absence this season – they will have to do it without the fans at Elland Road if this plan comes to fruition.

Some supporters are happy with that idea as it beats declaring the season null and void. However there are others who aren’t too happy knowing that they might have to watch the club return to the top-flight sat on their sofas at home.
