Jean-Kevin Augustin made his second appearance for Leeds United on Tuesday night when he came off the bench in the 1-1 draw against Brentford at Griffin Park.
Augustin, 22, made his debut at the weekend in the defeat to Nottingham Forest and it seems as though Marcelo Bielsa is finally starting to come around to the idea of using the French striker as an impact substitute while he gets up to speed at Elland Road.
Since joining on loan from RB Leipzig in January, Augustin has been left out of two of Leeds’ matchday squads in the Championship and played for the Under-23s as he aims to get to the level that Bielsa wants him at.
He’s now played twice off the bench in appearances that lasted 19 and 14 minutes respectively, but a lot of Leeds fans are worrying about the striker’s fitness after his performance at Griffin Park on Tuesday.
According to stats by WhoScored, Augustin had just three touches of the ball in his 14 minutes on the pitch at Brentford.
Patrick Bamford averaged 0.3 touches per minute before he was substituted off for Augustin, who averaged 0.2.
Although Bamford did not score, it was a decent display by him as he got involved in Leeds’ attacks, connecting well with his fellow attackers.
Augustin did not really do that and many fans believe that is down to the Frenchman’s overall lack of fitness.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
Was there for all to see,Augustin isn’t ready to start yet. Needs to get fit.

Agree with You on Poveda but we had good defence in before Dallas and White moved to midfield. Augustin didn’t look fit enough to play a half

As much as I want to see Augustin let loose he’s not fit. Anyone with sense can see that.

Great response from the team tonight, seemed to have their confidence back. Hoping Augustin gets fit quickly though cos he looks as mobile as Lasogga at the moment #lufc

I don't agree with your Bamford rating. Yes I don't feel like he'll ever score, but he led the line really well. Augustin didn't look fit when he came on, which is a big worry. @GrahamSmyth
