Many Leeds fans react to Augustin display as striker subbed off for U23s v Derby
Jean-Kevin Augustin continued his quest to get match fit, or Bielsa-fit, as he started for the Leeds United Under-23s tonight against Derby.
It was his second outing for the Under-23s this week after he played 45 minutes on Monday.
It was a strong XI from Carlos Corberan tonight, with Kalvin Phillips playing as he prepares to sit out the last of his three games out through suspension tomorrow.
Barry Douglas also made his return from injury and played alongside Pascal Struijk in defence. In goal, Elia Caprile made his Leeds debut.
All eyes were on Augustin again tonight, though.
He didn’t get much of a look-in to be fair, although he did try and score from inside his own half after spotting the keeper off his line (spoiler – it ended up being more of a backpass).
Perhaps that was a bit of frustration at getting absolutely no service from his Under-23s teammates up to that point.
He did come close to his first goal shortly before half-time when the ball was fizzed across the six-yard line.
Big Kev was inches away from getting on the end of it but it was turned in by Theo Hudson to bring the score back to 2-1 to Derby.
Here are the best reactions to his display from the Leeds fans tonight, with one perhaps summing it up perfectly by saying, “Leeds Fans at 18:05 – why is Big Kev playing tonight he should be on the bench tomorrow. Leeds Fans at 20:05 – Big Kev is overweight & looks rusty Maybe just trust Bielsa.”
