Leeds United have been linked with a move for Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare, and some fans are excited at the prospect of the France Under-21 international joining.

TeamTalk editor James Marshment posted the report and said, “Exactly the sort of midfield signing we ought to be looking at… would be a quality addition.”

Soumare was also given the seal of approval by Athletic journalist Phil Hay.

He was asked if there were any legs in the report linking Soumare to Leeds in a recent fan Q&A.

Hay said Soumare is “not a name I’ve heard mentioned specifically but I can see why he would fit.

“He’d cost a fair wedge so Leeds would be committing a large chunk of their budget but over the next couple of months we should start to get a firm idea of how they’re going to attack the summer recruitment.”

One potential problem that one Leeds fan flagged up is that Bielsa is currently suing Lille for £16.5m after being sacked by the French club back in 2017.

Bielsa was in court recently over the case which is likely to be decided in the next few months.

One fan said it was unlikely the club would want to do business with Leeds.

We think that if the price is right, Lille will do business with anyone considering the state of finances in French football at the moment.

Soumare moved to Lille from PSG in 2017 on a free transfer and has since made 98 appearances for the club. He’s under contract until 2022.

He can play in the defensive midfield position as well as further forward which would solve two big problems that Leeds have got. That’s why there are plenty of Leeds fans excited by the prospect of him joining in the summer.
