'Iniesta would be proud', 'Masterclass' – These fans thrilled by display from Leeds loanee

Leeds United loanee Alfie McCalmont scored his first goals for Oldham Athletic on Tuesday night and fans were left thrilled by his performance.

McCalmont scored a late double to help sink Bradford in the Papa John’s Trophy.

With five minutes left in the game and the score at 1-1, McCalmont got his first when he picked up the ball just outside the box and poked a shot that beat the keeper and ended in the corner of the net.

He got his second in the 93rd minute when he rushed into the box and confidently side-footed the ball past the keeper.

The win keeps Oldham on top of their group with three wins from three games. You can watch highlights of the game below – McCalmont’s double strike starts from 1:35 onwards.

It’s great to see McCalmont thriving on his loan after Leeds changed their policy towards some young players over the summer.

He’s a player that Leeds fans have high hopes for and we think he’s better playing regular competitive football then lining up for the Under-23s where he’s already proved how good he is.

The 20-year-old midfielder has made two appearances under Bielsa – both in the EFL Cup – and has been called up for the Northern Ireland senior squad.

Plenty of Oldham fans were thrilled by his match-winning display last night with one saying, “Iniesta would be proud.”

And his brace caught the eye of plenty of Leeds fans too.
