'Hopeless', 'Shocking', 'Awful' - Many Leeds fans destroy one player at HT v Arsenal
Leeds United fans have blasted right-back Luke Ayling for his first-half performance against Arsenal at Elland Road on Sunday.
Ayling, 29, has been one of the most influential players in the Leeds squad since winning promotion to the Premier League with stats by WyScout showing that the ex-Gunners right-back ranks third in the top-flight for progressive passes .
Marcelo Bielsa likes his full-backs to have a big impact in the attack and part of that includes Ayling playing a lot of forward passes, which usually come with an element of risk.
In the first-half against Arsenal, Ayling did misplace a lot of passes to hand his former team possession of the ball.
It seems that a lot of Leeds fans want to see an improvement from the 29-year-old after the half-time break with one saying that he had a “shocker” in the opening 45 minutes against the Gunners.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
Not the best 22 mins. Arsenal settled well into the game, pressing seems a bit off. Ayling looking dodgy…

Ayling needs to sort himself out

I’d rather Ayling just calm himself and look inside for Klich with a pass rather than that hopeless side foot punt everytime

Ayling fancy completing a pass? Putting unnecessary pressure on us from his silly balls

Ayling isn’t the only player who needs to show an improvement after the break. However, you have to admit that the Whites were marginally the better team against Arsenal.
It’s hard to see where this game is going.
Arsenal have the star players who are able to pull off something special but Leeds are seeing more of the ball and having slightly better chances.
All it will take is for one side to slip up for a moment and the other will take advantage.
Let’s just hope it is Arsenal who are doing the slipping up in the second period.
