‘Dreadful’, ‘Didn’t do much’ – Many Leeds fans slam one player despite 5-0 win v West Brom
Leeds United fans may have seen their team win 5-0 away at West Brom on Tuesday night but that does not mean that everyone was immune from criticism throughout.
As soon as Marcelo Bielsa’s team news was announced, fans starting hitting out at Portuguese winger Helder Costa, who was named on the bench for the eighth Premier League match in a row.
Costa, 26, did appear for the final nine minutes as he made his first appearance in three matches at The Hawthorns but the ex-Wolves attacker did little to endear himself towards the supporters and prove that he can be a better option for Bielsa on the right-wing.
According to stats by Wyscout, Costa completed just two of his five attempted passes. He did, however, completed his one and only dribble and had one touch inside the penalty area but he didn’t complete any crosses or shots at goal.
While those stats aren’t great, it’s worth remembering Costa hardly had any time to have an impact on a game that was already won by the time he entered the pitch.
That hasn’t stopped some Leeds fans from slamming the Portuguese ace though, with one saying he could have been put in the shop window by Bielsa with the short cameo at West Brom.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
There are some very harsh views here.
Costa started the season brilliantly but yes, he did start to fade away a bit and Raphinha has been superb since replacing the Portuguese winger in Bielsa’s starting line-up.
Raphinha is a better player but that doesn’t mean Leeds should try and go without Costa for the rest of the season by selling him in January. What if Raphinha gets injured?
Costa’s only just joined Leeds permanently and it’s not as though he’s an ageing player so let’s have some more faith in him.
He could be vital in the second half of the campaign if there are any injuries.
In other Leeds United news, fans are worried about Andrea Radrizzani’s position at the club.
