‘Absolute blinder’, ‘Surely time for his debut’ – These Leeds fans wowed by U23s ace v Fulham

Leeds United bounced back on Monday after a far-from-super Sunday when the Under-23s dished out a spanking of their own to Fulham.

With a few minutes left on the clock at Thorp Arch, it’s currently 7-1 to the Leeds Under-23s.

It means that they will remain unbeaten at home all season and top the Premier League 2 Division 2 table over Christmas.

A number of first-team players started the game today, with Pablo Hernandez getting himself on the scoresheet.

But it was Charlie Cresswell, the 18-year-old centre-back who really impressed.

And, with Liam Cooper picking up an injury in the game against Man United, there are plenty of fans who want to see him given the chance to step up to the first team.

After Tyler Roberts scored the opening goal, Cresswell made it two in the first-half, before an own goal, plus strikes from Hernandez, Bobby Kamwa, Joe Gelhdrdt and Helder Costa sent Fulham packing.

Cresswell – who one fan said is “our future skipper” – has been impressing in the Under-23s all season.

He played 90 minutes in the EFL Cup earlier in the season but one fan said that with Leeds’ injury problems it is is “surely time for his debut” in the Premier League.

Leeds face Burnley on December 27 and if Liam Cooper is ruled out, along with Diego Llorente and Robin Koch, he could get his big chance.

However, Pascal Struijk and Leif Davis are likely ahead of him in the pecking order.

One thing is certain, though – Cresswell will have done his chances no harm at all today in a game which Bielsa will have been watching.

Here’s what the Leeds fans on Twitter made of him…
