Willy Gnonto Premier League admission made after surprise Leeds United news
Don Goodman believes Willy Gnonto agreed a new contract because he is confident Leeds United will be in the Premier League next season.
Gnonto ended speculation over his future at Elland Road by agreeing terms on a new four-year deal last month in a surprise move, as confirmed by the club’s official website [31 August].
The Italy international has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs, but he now looks set to stay in Yorkshire for the long term.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Goodman said of the contract development: “He wants to play at the highest level possible, which is the Premier League.
“The fact he’s signed a new contract makes me believe, that he believes, Leeds will be a Premier League team this time next season.”
Willy Gnonto can help fire Leeds United into Premier League
It looked certain at one point last summer that Gnonto would be on his way, but that did not prove the case.
More speculation surfaced in the most recent window but, again, nothing came of it and the Italian is still at Elland Road.
As Goodman says, there is every chance Leeds could be in the Premier League next season and Gnonto will get his wish of returning to the top flight.

If that is to happen, Daniel Farke will know more is needed from the talented attacker, who has one goal and no assists in six Championship games this term.
Gnonto has not quite hit the levels expected in 2024-25, but with his future now settled, fingers crossed that will soon change.
In other Leeds United news, Goodman believes Patrick Bamford’s return will have every player and manager saying the same thing.
