Willy Gnonto ‘deserves credit’ for what he has done at Leeds recently

Willy Gnonto has found gametime hard to come by at Leeds United recently.

Off the back of a 2-0 win at home against Millwall, Daniel Farke has his side exactly where he wants them ahead of the final nine games of the campaign.

Leeds are in the driving seat to achieve a return to the Premier League, though Gnonto has had very little influence on that in recent weeks.

The Italian hasn’t started a league fixture for Leeds since the back end of December, though he has still impressed with what he has done in regard to that.

Paul Robinson impressed by what Gnonto has done

Gnonto will be frustrated at the lack of game time he has received since the turn of the year, though Paul Robinson has been impressed with the way he has applied himself despite the situation.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I think you’ve got to give the player credit for his attitude and his application after the whole transfer saga and then signing the new deal and staying. I think he can only be credited for the way that he’s been this season.

“It’s difficult when a team’s playing well. It’s difficult to get into a side. And obviously, with Daniel Farke, we see he doesn’t generally rotate that often.

“You know, his front three or four, James, Aaronson, Solomon, Piroe, that’s his kind of go-to. And when they’re winning games, you can’t really argue with that. You know, their record since Christmas has been good.

“I’d give him an opportunity in the number 10 role. But I’m not necessarily sure that he would do the defensive work and put in the defensive shift that Aaronson would do.”

Farke must make the most of Gnonto availability

While Leeds remain on track to achieve their ultimate goal, a lack of rotation has perhaps prevented them from picking up a few extra points here and there.

With the race for a top-two finish not quite over yet, Gnonto could provide them with the additional spark to get over the line, though Farke must find a place for him.

Whether it’s in the 10 position or out wide, Gnonto has plenty more to offer for Leeds.
