Wayne Rooney blasted over ‘snarky’ Leeds United comment, Sky Sports journalist shocked

Dan Bardell has slammed Wayne Rooney after the Plymouth Argyle manager suggested it would be a “failure” if Leeds United aren’t promoted this season.

The Whites secured three points against the Manchester United legend’s side (2 November) before suffering a first defeat in eight against Millwall on Wednesday (6 November).

After the Pilgrim’s lost, their manager aimed a comment at Daniel Farke’s side suggesting “anything but promotion for Leeds this season would be a failure“.

This has left Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell baffled as he believes Rooney should focus on his own side rather than making comments on other sides.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Bardell said: “Its a needless, snarky comment from Wayne Rooney who should be concentrating on himself.

When you consider what happened at Birmingham City and how that damaged his reputation, I wouldn’t be coming out and speaking about other managers.

In terms of the job that Farke is having to do, they came so close last season, I think with the turnover of players and some critical injuries, I don’t think it is a given that Leeds go up.

I’m surprised to hear Wayne Rooney talking like that.

Wayne Rooney slammed for Leeds United comment

It was interesting to see the Plymouth manager make this comment after the game and although this opinion may be shared by many supporters, it isn’t for Rooney to say.

The Whites have been going well this season and despite the defeat against Millwall, the form in recent weeks has been positive and has Farke’s side firmly in the race for promotion.

After the disappointment of last season, fans will be hoping to go one step further this campaign with the manager and players at Elland Road likely to share the same ambition.
