We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that Leeds will be watching the Championship play-off final tonight “very closely” with several potential transfer targets involved at Wembley.
Phil Hay claimed that Leeds are confident of landing Said Benrahma if Brentford don’t go up, while Bees striker Ollie Watkins is another possible target.
However, Robinson believes that Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is another player Leeds will “definitely” be looking at – and he thinks the Fulham frontman would be perfect for Marcelo Bielsa.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “I think Leeds will be watching very closely tonight because I think Aleksandar Mitrovic is another player Leeds should be trying to sign.
“He fits the way Bielsa plays at Leeds – Ollie Watkins does too. It won’t just be Leeds watching. I think lots of clubs will be watching the game very closely and the team that doesn’t get promoted will be inundated with offers for one or two of their players.
“Mitrovic and Watkins will definitely be two that Leeds are looking at. Mitrovic is an outstanding player who’s proved he can do it in the Championship and the Premier League.
“The way Bielsa plays with a lone striker, I’d love to see him at Elland Road next season.
“As for Benrahma, I think he’s been a top player in the Championship this season. I think a lot of teams will be looking at him.
“Even if Brentford do go up they’ll have a lot of bids for him. If Leeds have only got £45m to spend they’re not going to want to spend £20m on one player, but the game is key tonight.”
We’ll have to agree to disagree with Robinson on Mitrovic – we’re just not convinced Bielsa will want a player with his temperament problems.
Mitrovic was at it again in the game against Leeds after the season restarted and he should have been sent off for an elbow on Ben White.
Said Benrahma and Ollie Watkins are a different kettle of fish – we’d love to see both of them at Elland Road.
