‘Very clever deal’ – Exclusive: Pundit a huge fan of upcoming Leeds signing after £10m reveal
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that while he would have signed Jack Harrison permanently “as soon as possible”, the deal to take him on another season-long loan before making him a Leeds player next summer is “very clever”.
Leeds fans were expecting Harrison to sign on a permanent deal this summer with an option in place with Man City.
However, Leeds have gone a different route, agreeing on another season-long loan with a renegotiated £10m option that they will trigger next summer.
News of the £10m option was revealed by Athletic journalist Phil Hay. The new deal will kick in later this summer.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said Harrison had been “outstanding” for Leeds this season.
“I would have signed him as soon as possible,” Robinson said, “he’s been outstanding this season.
“The priorities are him and Ben White for me and Leeds should do everything possible to get White now too.
“With the Leeds finances, this could be a deal that’s structured so they can spend even more money on bolstering the squad for the Premier League.
“If they don’t have to pay the money to buy him until the end of the season, they can use that money to strengthen the squad. That would be even better.
“You’re getting a 12-month loan, an interest-free loan basically, and the Leeds finances will be even better after a season in the Premier League.
“If they can do it like that then it’s a very clever deal to pull off.”
Phil Hay has said that Leeds will make his transfer permanent next season and Man City have been very accommodating over the deal.
We would have preferred Harrison on a permanent deal but we’re happy this way if it means more money to spend on new players.
Now we’d love to see Ben White snapped up, even if it means him joining on another season-long loan.
