We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be an “unbelievable acquisition” for Leeds United.
News of the sensational possible signing came from Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani this week in an interview on DiMarzio.com.
He said that he had held talks with Ibrahimovic over a possible January move but also said it was possible the deal could happen in the future.
The striker moved to AC Milan in January but is out of contract in the summer.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds news Robinson said, “You look at a player like that, the quality of him, he would have been an unbelievable acquisition for Leeds.
“But whether it was his talent on the pitch or the commercial side of what he’d bring, I don’t know.
“You’d like to think Ibrahimovic, the way he looks after himself, maybe he would have been the last bit of the jigsaw for Leeds. If Radrizzani was thinking along those lines then fair play.
“In the summer I don’t think there’s any kind of conversation to have unless Leeds are in the Premier League.
“At 38 he wouldn’t play every week in the Premier League and you have to ask would Bielsa want him? Would he be able to play the Bielsa way with the demands he makes? I doubt it.
“It would be a tough ask for him to fit in a Bielsa team. It’s a tough regime and one that would break a few players.”
We can’t imagine a player who is more removed from your typical Bielsa player than Ibrahimovic.
Radrizzani admitted that he hadn’t talked to Bielsa about the player and the manager may well have vetoed the deal in any case.
He’s a sensational target though and Radrizzani has previous – he landed Bielsa against all the odds.
