Tottenham transfer conundrum as Archie Gray would prefer Leeds United move
Archie Gray would likely prefer a loan return to Leeds United over a move abroad in January if given the choice by Tottenham, according to Don Goodman.
Tottenham are said to be expecting loan offers to come in for the youngster when the transfer window opens [GiveMeSport, 30 October] given his lack of playing time since joining from Leeds.
Reports from Spain have suggested that Sevilla’s director of football – ex-Leeds chief Victor Orta – has sounded out Gray over a possible loan for the second half of the campaign.
That may be a more appealing option for Spurs on the face of it, but Goodman believes the player himself would rather a return to Elland Road.
“Spurs will look at the levels in LaLiga, the style of play Sevilla play, and will compare that to Archie coming back to the Championship,” he told MOT Leeds News.
“Leeds are a top team but would it be better for him to be in a league that is probably more technical than the Championship? He ultimately needs game time at a technical team, which is what Spurs are.
“That leads to a conundrum for Spurs. If he’s given the choice, you’d imagine he’d prefer to go back to Leeds because they have a part of his heart. But it’s a footballing decision and it’ll likely be taken out of his hands.
“Spurs have to do what they deem to be best for the player’s development. If that’s in LaLiga with Sevilla, that’s their gift to have.”
Archie Gray return to Leeds United makes perfect sense
Losing Gray to Tottenham in the summer transfer window was a huge blow for Leeds, and not one many expected to happen.
The hope was always that the versatile midfielder, who plays more often at right-back now, would spend another year at Elland Road before then making the step up.

Gray has struggled for minutes in the Premier League, which is understandable, but it surely now makes sense for Spurs to let him continue developing elsewhere for a short period.
Moving abroad has its pros and cons, but nowhere will Gray flourish better than Elland Road. This is a deal that would make perfect sense in January.
