‘Total sense’ – Exclusive: Pundit reacts as Leeds 20y/o set for loan to local rivals
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that it would make “total sense” to send Robbie Gotts on loan to Huddersfield, after former Under-23s boss Carlos Corberan was installed as their manager.
The Sun journalist Alan Nixon claimed over the weekend that Gotts could go out on loan to Leeds’ Yorkshire rivals next season.
Robinson claims that Leeds would know exactly how 20-year-old Gotts would be treated and how his football progression would continue under Corberan.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “If his opportunities are going to be limited then it’s wise to send him out to a Championship club.
“I think it’s all down to Carlos Corberan going in there. Gotts would continue his football education exactly the same as he was progressing under Bielsa. So that would make total sense to me.
“There are potentially more deals to come with Huddersfield. He was effectively Bielsa’s right-hand man and I imagine Bielsa will do what he can to help him.
“However, it’s a cutthroat business and he certainly won’t be doing anything to put his own club or own team at a detriment.
“But Leeds will know their players will be treated the right way, be taught to play football in the right way and will be as fit as they were at Leeds as Corberan will have the same routine at Huddersfield.”
Gotts is a popular player with the Leeds fans but he has struggled for game time under Bielsa.
He has made two appearances, but only one start against Arsenal in the FA Cup.
He did enough there to convince fans he could play a part next season but it seems like he could be set for more learning under the former Leeds Under-23 manager.
