‘Top, top player’ – Exclusive: Pundit drools over £13k/wk ace as Leeds close on another signing

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has hailed Robin Koch as a “top, top player” as Leeds look set to make him their next summer signing.

After bringing in a number of solid Under-23 signings, including Joe Gelhardt and Cody Drameh, Leeds stepped things up on Saturday, announcing a club-record deal for Valencia striker Rodrigo.

Koch could be next – he is set for a medical at Leeds this weekend, according to Mirror journalist David Anderson, after a fee of £13m plus add-ons was agreed.

Koch is on a reported £13k-a-week at Freiburg.

Robinson believes that Koch will sign for Leeds but he thinks that the Whites will still need another centre-back before the end of the window.

“Robin Koch is a top, top player,” Robinson said, exclusively to MOT Leeds News.

“He’ll be a great addition for Leeds United if they get him over the line.

“If Ben White isn’t going to sign – and that’s looking dead now – and they’ve lost Gaetano Berardi to injury, they’re going to have to address this position again, though.

“I think Koch will come but I think they need at least two centre-backs this summer.

“Koch will be one of two – I think it will be him and another one.

“White was always going to be hard to bring back to Elland Road but Koch is a really good player.”

Koch has already broken through into the Germany side, where he’s won two caps ahead of the delayed Euro 2020 finals.

And Leeds fans could get a chance to check both him and new signing Rodrigo out on Thursday when Spain meet Germany in a UEFA Nations League game.

Leeds fans will be especially keen to see Rodrigo on the teamsheet after the striker missed the last five games of last season through injury.
